About Wheeler Powersports

Our Beginning (1967–1980)
Wheeler Powersports has been a part of the Fort Smith community since 1967. Tom and Kathy Wheeler started the dealership with a simple dream—making a living doing what they loved. In those early days, Tom wore every hat: owner, salesman, assembler, mechanic, parts manager, and even janitor. What kept the doors open was his commitment to serving customers with pride and integrity.
We began as one of the first Kawasaki motorcycle dealers in the area. Our original location at 1708 Towson Avenue was small, but it became the foundation for everything that followed. In the early 1970s, Tom hired Bill Hutchinson, who went on to become our sales manager until his retirement in 2020.
Growing With Powersports (1980–2000)
In 1980, we moved to 3610 Towson Avenue, where powersports really began to take off. This was the era of Kawasaki three-wheelers and the first Ninja sportbikes, both of which became local legends.
By January 1986, we expanded again, purchasing the former England Suzuki building—our current location. This addition brought Suzuki into the Wheeler family, strengthening our lineup with one of the industry’s most innovative motorcycle and ATV brands.
In 1997, Polaris® ATVs joined our stable, giving customers more choices and introducing the automatic transmissions that would reshape the ATV market.
Expanding Into the 21st Century
The 2000s brought more opportunities to grow. In 2008, we added KYMCO scooters, and in 2011, Polaris® Victory Motorcycles®. Each new brand gave our customers more options to ride, explore, and enjoy.
Behind the scenes, we’ve also embraced the tools of modern business—computer systems, websites, and e-commerce. While those weren’t part of Tom and Kathy’s original vision, we’ve always believed in staying progressive to serve our customers better.
Today & Tomorrow
After many changes and remodels, Wheeler Powersports is proud to call our current facility home. We now stock one of the region’s largest selections of accessories and apparel, making it easier for riders to gear up with what they need.
What hasn’t changed is our atmosphere: welcoming, approachable, and focused on you. Whether you’re browsing, shopping, or just stopping in to talk about rides and adventures, our doors are always open.
Our staff is the most knowledgeable and experienced group we’ve ever had, and they’re here to help you find the right machine, part, or accessory for your lifestyle. We now have the second and third generation Wheeler's in charge of the daily operations and the future looks bright!
